Many people prefer not to be aware during the removal of their wisdom teeth, opting for sedation to ensure a comfortable experience. During your consultation, we will discuss the best anesthesia options for you. All outpatient surgeries are performed under appropriate anesthesia to prioritize your comfort. Our team is fully trained, licensed, and experienced in administering various types of anesthesia. We provide these services in a safe environment with modern monitoring equipment and a highly skilled staff. Both the Surgical Care Team and our office facilities are regularly inspected by the Board of Dental Examiners to ensure the highest standards of care.
On the day of your procedure, we will provide medications to help minimize post-operative pain and swelling. We ask that a parent or responsible adult accompany you to the office and stay with you throughout the day. The surgery itself typically takes between 30 and 60 minutes, though you should expect to be at the office for about 90 minutes. Thanks to recent advancements in medicine and technology, wisdom tooth removal now offers faster recovery times and minimal post-operative discomfort. We adhere to state-of-the-art sterilization and infection control procedures throughout the process.
It is essential that you do not eat or drink anything (except for prescribed medications with a small sip of water) for at least 6 hours before your surgery. To ensure your safety, it's important not to try to eat a "last meal" right before the 6-hour mark. Having food in your stomach can increase the risk of serious complications during anesthesia, including nausea and vomiting. If these guidelines are not followed, your procedure may need to be rescheduled. At your consultation, we may provide you with a prescription for pain medication, which you can fill in advance for your convenience.
When you are seated in the surgical room, we will ensure that you are as comfortable as possible. If sedation is part of your procedure, an IV will be placed in your right arm to ensure optimal delivery of medication. This process is quick and nearly painless. You will also receive local anesthesia to ensure comfort during the procedure. Afterward, you will likely feel sleepy for a significant part of the day, allowing you to rest as you recover.
